Ordeals ***************** "Hey~ you two really planning on climbing Mt. Ordeals? I know your dads did it, but its gonna be a long and treacherous climb." Nadia commented, looking up towards the peak of the towering mountain in front of them. "We've came this far... we can't turn back now." Cody said, looking toward his close friend, Elliot. "Right... If we make it all the way, we have a chance... We could get the same powers Uncle Cecil and Father did." Elliot said, putting a hand over his chestplate, thinking deeply. Lachesis looked like she wanted to say something, but all she did was nod. Something made her uncomfortable, but she didn't know what. There was a feeling of dread inside of her as the group approached the blazing wall of inferno that blocked the mountain pass. Nadia reached out towards the flame, then pulled her hand back in quickly. "Yow, its real, its real." she shook her hand, exaggerating the heat of the flame. "Uh, great, now how do we get past this." Elliot thought for a moment, then came up with his idea, "We'll run through it if we have to..." "Elliot!" Lachesis objected with a stern voice. "We can feel the heat from all the way out here, you'll never make it if you run in there." "But... if there's no way to extinguish it..." Cody mumbled as he looked around for a source of water or ice. Suddenly in a puff of smoke, a young man clad in a gaudy red, green, and white outfit appeared in front of the startled Cody and Elliot. He struck a pose and lifted his yellow straw magician's hat, only to reveal his face covered by a black mask with two little eyeholes and the mouth cut away, looking somewhat like a Mexican wrestler's mask. Cody and Elliot couldn't contain their laughter while Nadia pulled a kunai on instinct, but Lachesis stopped her as she recognized the voice. Her face was beet red, trying to disbelieve what she was seeing in front of her. "Never fear my fellow adventurers! The Great Mystery Mage is here to save your day!" the mage started to pose wildly as he chanted a spell. He pointed his hands towards the wall of flame when a rather omnious shadow approached the mage from behind. He caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye, when the fist of justice hit him square in the head. The mage fell over, disrupting his spell in the process. He turned around and yelled out, "Hey! Who dares to thwack Palom the Great in the head like he was some sort of misbehaving kid!" The ruse was up already, as the mystery mage yelled out his name for everyone to hear. As his gaze whent from the ground to the person's face, he started shuffling back, "Um, I can explain, Porom. Really." Standing in front of Palom was his twin sister, Porom with her arms crossed and a paper fan in her hand. "It wouldn't me much of an ordeal if you had helped them, would it?" Porom scolded Palom like she has always done in the past. A few minutes of her tirade went by, then she turned to the others, "I'm sorry about that. He's never changed..." Porom bowed. "I am Porom of Mysidia, and this is my twin brother, Palom." "I couldn't believe he would do such a thing..." Lachesis whispered. She still looked to be in shock of how Mysidia's greatest magicians would put on such a show for everyone to see. "I believe we have met in the past..." "Aww... You should have let him go on. It was getting to the good part." Nadia giggled, fiddling with the kunai in her hand. "I'm Nadia Geraldine. Call me Naddie." "Mt. Ordeals is watching every step you take, adventurers. You must find your own way up... You must seek your true allies who will help you every step of the way. There will be that one person in this world who has the ability to get you past your current ordeal. Thus the mountain got its name..." Porom explained in a short story. "It's the same mountain that my Father climbed twenty years ago... He was able to get to its peak. I am ready to do so as well." Cody looked determined as he stared at the wall of flame blocking his way. "Cody... we should turn back for now. Miss Porom is right, there has to be somebody somewhere that can help us." Elliot added. "I can help you! Be cause I *am* the greatest in Mysidia." Palom motioned to himself, getting another thwack in the head in return. Porom shook her head, "You've already climbed Mt. Ordeals and made it to the peak. The mountain will not accept Cody if you help them." Cody thought for a moment, then smiled a bit, "You're right Elliott. Lets go find this person then!" "Then what are we waiting for? Off we go!" Nadia yelled as she thrusted a fist into the air. Palom and Porom looked on as the young adventurers turned away from Mt. Ordeals, but they knew in their heart that they would return once again to make the climb to its peak. A spirit would be waiting for each one, to help them through as it did 20 years ago... **************** Fade to Black ****************
